Thanks to KGP-Photography from the US we are able to give you a first looks at the 2023 Cadillac Celestiq. The EV-flagship has been caught during some tests on public roads in the US – not as a stage-managed PR event.
Cadillac released some photos of a Celestiq prototype dressed in a fancy blue wrap with a celestial theme, but now we see the Celestiq in the black-and-white graphic camouflage that covers most of Cadillac’s prototypes, signaling that the real development work has begun. The new camouflage does show some new details hidden in the official “spy shots,” such as the slim trim piece above the charging door. Oh, and there’s a charging door, as the Celestiq concept did away with this mundane detail to remove any distracting cut-lines.
This prototype appears to have more visible front lighting, and the bright LED elements appear to be largely production-ready. Placeholder lights still grace the rear-fascia.
This initial test run was done with three engineers on board, giving some sense of the scale, and the ample room for the back seat passenger. It appears that we can see a hint of a rear screen mounted on the back of the front seats, as seen in the Celestiq concept.
We managed to grab some video of the Celestiq prototype in action, capturing two panning runs as it exited and entered GM’s Proving Grounds. The flagship EV is definitely imposing, and its radical fastback shape is somewhat jarring among the more conventional traffic. We get to see the production lighting and watch it flash amber when the turn indicators are activated. We also get a chance to see it in relation to its Chevy Silverado chase car, and a passing Cadillac XT6, to give some sense of the height and scale in the real world.
