Genesis will be launching a new luxury pure electric SUV on the market from 2026 with the new GV90. The new flagship of the Genesis brand is based on the new electric eM platform with 800-volt technology and bears the internal codename JG1. With the Neolun Concept, Genesis has already given a glimpse into the future and announced this model. The first production-ready prototypes are now on the road and have been photographed in Europe near the Arctic Circle during winter testing. Unlike the concept, the production version has normal doors and a B-pillar. The concept did without a B-pillar and had counter-rotating doors. In terms of size, the GV90 is likely to be about 5,20 metres long and a real competitor to the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV. The new Genesis GV90 prototype is fitted with Michelin X-Ice Snowy SUV tires in size 285/45 R22. An air suspension and rear axle steering can also be recognised.
First drive ends in a ditch
The Koreans‘ first drive with this Genesis GV90 prototype was actually only supposed to be to the nearest supermarket. However, despite the camouflage, they were rather camera-shy and only dropped off their colleagues in front of the supermarket, while the driver of the Genesis GV90 prototype wanted to flee quickly back to the test site with the new electric flagship. Apparently too quickly, because he didn’t make it that far. Instead of bringing the prototype back home safely, he parked it in the ditch and gave me the opportunity to take some footage of the car at my leisure. Many thanks for that!
A few hundred metres before the entrance to the Hyundai Mobis test site in Scandinavia, the driver veered off the road to the right on an almost straight stretch and ended up in deep snow. It is unclear what caused this, whether it was a driving error or the interior camouflage, which was also hanging over the steering wheel when he passed the camera a last time before he ended up in the snow, that pulled him into the ditch. In the weight class of approx. 3 tonnes as an electric SUV, the driver had no chance of freeing himself from this situation. Even a Volkswagen Amarok that had been called to the scene was powerless and could at best provide assistance. Only an excavator that had been called in was able to pull the new Genesis prototype out of the ditch.
My Youtube Channel CarSpyMedia focuses on high quality car spy videos that only show the model mentioned in the title. I do not show any scenes twice and therefore want to stand out from other spy video channels.
